A Collectivist Prayer

by Joe Siano

O wise and glorious Big Brother who,
though flawless reasoning, scientific validation and unfailing insight
knows what is best for me and the whole of humanity.
I thank you.

I thank you for growing the food on my table and building the roof over my head.
I thank you for the clean water that I drink and the fresh air that I breath.
I thank you for clothing that warms me in winter and shields me from the sun in summer.
I thank you for vehicles to transport me, roads to navigate, beaches and parks in which to recreate.
I thank you for providing labor to occupy my idle hands and a livable wage to sustain me.

I thank you for the learning that you shower upon our children and wondrous books you provide.
I thank you guiding us in the ways of right thinking and leading me along the narrow path.
I thank you for protecting me and my family from the blasphemy of the contrarian and for punishing his apostasy.

All that I have comes from you.
All that I have belongs to you.
For you create all that is good, worthwhile and worthy.
Without you, I am nothing, I have nothing.
I serve the greater good by serving you.

I pray that your lost sheep, your scattered tribes,
be they Socialists, Communists, Fascists, Nazis, Progressives or Neo-Cons,
that these heirs of Marx may one day be united under your paternal care.

Amen.

In the interest of equal time, I offer I, Pencil from Leonard Read
